January 1st marked the first day of the 2010 Thoroughbred racing season. This of course means that every true fan should be following the prospects for the 136th Run for the Roses. Its not everyday you get to witness something like the first Saturday in May. As for myself, I’m hoping we will finally see the making of a new Triple Crown winner since we’ve been deprived ever since 1978. Who knows. The past few years have been mere teases with competitors always shying away from victory at the last minute. Personally, I think the Derby has turned into an even more dangerous event, shoving 20 horses into one field for the sake of making more money and people begging for the chance to claim their horse ran the race. Big whoop. Its not exciting unless you win or have talent. Are there upsets? Of course. But with the fields as large as they are today, its no wonder we haven’t seen a Crown winner since Affirmed.
