Does Money Matter?

In terms of producing blockbuster hits, the recent film “Avatar” has swept audiences away with director James Cameron’s creative vision that embarked on a journey of new technological advances.  “Avatar” has undoubtedly paved the way for a shift in the film industry with its groundbreaking effects, despite a relatively trite and basic story-line.

I personally want to research the relationship between movie budget and gross income by analyzing successful low and high-budget films and discovering what aspects made each so successful.  When looking at hits such as “Avatar” it appears that the astounding budget seemed to pay off.  Then again, when you look at low-budget films like “Dirty Dancing” it makes one wonder what a little bit of money can really do.  Is spending $500 million really the solution, or should a budget be created under stricter guidelines aimed towards perfection and ingenuity?
